Our Incense Collection has been artisanally crafted by the Koh-Shi aroma masters on the Japanese island of Awaji. One of the earliest written records of Japanese history recounts that a large agar log washed ashore in the sixth century and emanated such a beautiful aroma when the villagers burned some of it as firewood that they gifted the rest to the prince and empress. Prince Shotoku commissioned a statue from it and asked the villagers to enshrine the remaining wood. The exquisite Kareiki Shrine still stands today.
